Outdoor Adventures & Team Building: Growth Beyond Comfort Zones

What Are Outdoor Adventures & Team Building?
At Cornerstones of Success, we believe the outdoors is one of the best classrooms for life. Through hiking, camping, and carefully designed team challenges, participants are invited to step outside their comfort zones and into environments that test their physical endurance, strengthen group bonds, and develop real-world leadership skills.

Why This Matters
Nature strips away distractions and forces you to face what’s real, your mindset, your limits, and your attitude toward adversity. Outdoor experiences help participants develop patience, perseverance, problem-solving, and trust, not just in themselves, but in those around them.

These adventures are not about thrill-seeking. They’re about discipline, strategy, endurance, and growth. Every challenge faced in the wild translates directly into the challenges of daily life.

What Do Participants Do?
Outdoor adventures are hands-on leadership experiences, including:

  • Trail hikes through Minnesota’s parks and wilderness areas

  • Overnight camping trips with structured group activities

  • Team challenges that require collaboration, planning, and communication

  • Reflection circles around the campfire to process lessons and personal growth

  • Solo time in nature for journaling, clarity, and internal focus

Participants are not spectators. They are responsible for preparing gear, managing resources, setting up camps, and ensuring group success.

How It’s Structured
Outdoor components are built into the rhythm of the program. We hold a beginning-of-season wilderness kickoff and an end-of-fall closing retreat, with smaller day hikes and group-building outings throughout the term. These events are led by experienced mentors who emphasize safety, structure, and support while pushing each participant to lead by example.

When Does It Happen?
Outdoor adventures take place throughout the year, mostly on Saturdays and during designated retreat weekends. Each trip is carefully planned to match the season, skill level, and developmental goals of the group. All activities are supervised, intentional, and designed to foster trust, humility, strength, and unity.
